Some illustrater is a dumbass. They're knitting socks on two single points. It won't work that way. ;)
Give the illustrater a break - he was going for the feel of the picture not if it was perfect. When I saw it my heart warmed a bit and I didn't how they were knitting. I also enjoy these knitting in history pictures. It has been around for a while.
LOL You are so right Miriam! Funny that I didn't notice that. Like all complicated things, knitting is simplified to a stereotype in this illustration.
